The reason submission is so unpalatable to people, especially women, is because of all the “Christian” lies that swirl around it. Submission itself is a beautiful thing that enhances human relationships. But here are some examples of how people take it, twist it into a lie, and fling it around like a weapon that can (and does) encourage and perpetuate abuse of women and children.

When modern day Pharisees demand submission of half the human race rather than lifting up Christ’s Way of living in submission to one another, they continue the humanistic culture of power-over. It’s easy to do. Rules that control part of the human race make things simple. Walking by faith in the living, breathing Spirit of Christ and respecting the boundaries of other human lives is more complex and requires maturity, discernment, and a vibrant walk with Jesus. It’s not so black and white.
We believe a lie if we think that a married woman’s husband is the equivalent of God to her. Worshiping a man is not spiritual or healthy.
I have a 6-year-old daughter who is compliant to the extreme. She never argues. She rarely disobeys. If an older sibling asks for a toy she is playing with – she gives it to them, no questions asked. If they put up a stink about something, she tries to appease them and make peace. She’ll give them anything they want just to make sure they are happy. And this isn’t “spiritual” or healthy.
